Oct. 29 - Nov. 2  is Bike to Work Week and Langara will be joining workplaces across the Lower Mainland in celebrating cycling.

Bargaining at the Universities

Here is the situation at the BC universities currently in negotiations for new contracts.

All five of BC's largest universities (UBC, SFU, UVic, Thompson Rivers University and the UNBC) have been subject to strike action in the past week in efforts to get their employers back to the bargaining table for a deal:

UBC: Talks are continuing with one of the two other CUPE locals – local 2278. CUPE 116 is still engaged in targeted picketing.

UBC support staff reach deal

Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 2950, representing 1,500 clerical, library and hospital staff at the University of British Columbia, has signed a tentative collective agreement.
The deal reached October 10 is for 0-0-2-2% wage increases over four years ending in 2014. This is the first tentative agreement reached at a BC university staffed by CUPE support workers in the current round of bargaining.

Features of the deal are:
